Loop joins the Mevo team to accelerate carshare in Hamilton
08/03/2021 Loop News
We are delighted to announce that Loop and Mevo, New Zealand’s leading Carshare company, are joining forces!
From 1st April 2021 Loop will be owned and operated by Mevo Ltd, bringing a huge opportunity for Hamilton to have a larger and faster-growing carshare business into the future.
Mevo has been operating in Wellington since 2016 and has pioneered a range of carsharing initiatives such as electric vehicles, one-way journeys, free-floating zones, and climate positivity.
As part of the deal, Loop Director, Richard van den Engel, will join the Mevo board and he said “It’s a great opportunity for Loop to join Mevo. We’ve always been really impressed with the team there, they’ve got a great business, are growing quickly, and bring the same values to carshare and customer experience that we established at Loop. I’m excited to support their board in the next stage of development”.
Mevo CEO, Erik Zydervelt, said he is excited for Mevo’s biggest year to date. The Loop acquisition will play a large part in the next phase of Mevo’s explosive growth. It will be a key support in their continued expansion in Wellington and entry into Auckland later this year.
“The Loop team have built a great car share for Hamiltonians. It’s a real privilege to be welcoming the Loop community into the Mevo family including Richard van den Engel bringing his outstanding industry experience to our board. Mevo has been an industry leader for the last four years, fundamentally changing how Wellingtonians think about transport. This year we’re excited to contribute to the future of Hamilton and Auckland with the seamless experience Mevo users in Wellington trust and love.”
Loop began operating in Hamilton in 2019 and quickly grew to over 20 cars situated around the city. Hamilton City Council CEO, Richard Briggs said “Carshare is a key transport option for the future of Hamilton. We’ve loved having Loop on our streets and credit to the Ebbett Group for pioneering such a successful start-up. I look forward to welcoming Mevo later in the year to continue the growth of this service in our city”.
For Loop members, whilst there will be a number of positive changes emerging from the deal, it’s important to note:
THE LOOP FLEET AND APP WILL CONTINUE TO OPERATE AS NORMAL UNTIL LATER IN THE YEAR.
While the transition from Loop to Mevo is underway, the app and the Loop fleet will operate entirely as normal and members will not notice any changes. At the appropriate time, later in the year, we will transfer all members over to the Mevo platform and they will simply download a new app and use that, as they do today with the Loop solution.
Mevo pricing and terms are very similar to those Loop currently operates under so we expect members to have a seamless transition to the new service.
WE WILL KEEP OUR MEMBERS WELL INFORMED OF ANY ACTIONS REQUIRED OR ANY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS AT THE APPROPRIATE TIME.
Loop / Mevo operations will remain based in Hamilton after the takeover so members can be reassured the service enjoyed today will retain that same local focus.

The whole team at Loop is excited about this positive step for carsharing in Hamilton and we can’t wait for the next stage of this journey.
